Psychology fees & appointments

Clear information before you begin.

Standard appointments are 50 minutes. Your fee, any available rebate and expected out-of-pocket cost will be confirmed before your first appointment.

Eligible Medicare referral

The rebate shown applies to eligible appointments under the Better Access initiative. A valid referral is required, usually under a Mental Health Treatment Plan. Parent-focused consultations may also be provided under this arrangement where Medicare requirements are met.

Other Medicare pathways may have different requirements or rebates. Referral requirements and available rebates can be discussed before your first appointment.

No referral required

Privately funded appointment

$230

You do not need a referral to make a privately funded appointment. A Medicare rebate does not apply, although you may be eligible for a rebate through your private health insurer, depending on your cover.

Medicare and private health insurance rebates cannot both be claimed for the same appointment.

Payment is due on the day of the consultation. Medicare rebate amounts may change. The rebate shown above is current as at September 2026.

Cancellations

Your appointment time is set aside for you

We understand that unexpected circumstances might affect your ability to attend, so please contact North of Why as soon as you can if you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.

Less than 48 hours but at least 24 hours	50% of the scheduled appointment fee
Less than 24 hours or non-attendance	100% of the scheduled appointment fee

Medicare rebates are not available for cancellation fees. If exceptional circumstances prevent you from attending, please contact North of Why to discuss this. Further appointments may be paused while a cancellation fee remains outstanding, unless another arrangement has been agreed.
